High Adventure Preparation Camp

Info & Registration

For many Scouts and leaders, a high adventure trip is the highlight of their Scouting career. This year, Many Point is offering a High Adventure Preparation Camp from August 22nd – 26th of 2022. The High Adventure Preparation Camp is designed to prepare crews attending Philmont or Northern Tier in 2023, but everyone is welcome.

Groups are expected to bring all of their own camping gear and should be prepared to operate more independently than a typical week at summer camp. We will be doing extensive treks that take advantage of the wilderness environment around Many Point and give participants the idea of the rigor that will be involved in a high adventure trip. Crews will select either a Canoeing Focus or Backpacking/Hiking Focus:

  • The Canoeing Focus will include safety procedures, techniques, canoeing day trips, and portaging. Scouts will have the opportunity to earn canoeing merit badge.
  • The Backpacking/Hiking Focus will include route finding, safety, and day hikes including the North Country Trail. Scouts will have the opportunity to complete some requirements of the hiking merit badge.

All crews will learn about physical conditioning, youth leadership, shakedown, campsite setup, the “Bear-muda Triangle”, wilderness cooking, and the importance of teamwork.

Each unit will be able to have 2-3 Scouts or leaders take the Wilderness First Aid course during the week, which is required for attendance at Philmont or Northern Tier.

  • Cost: $99 per Scout or Adult. Includes food, staffing, and the program and first aid supplies
  • Minimum Age: 13 years old for Scouts. Minimum age for Wilderness First Aid is 14 years old.
  • Each crew must have at least two 21 year old Adult leaders.
  • Crew size of 8 to 12.
